Hastings

Our what has become the regular trip to Hastings in Sussex to watch and participate in the fire festival which has pagan roots and celebrates the wind up of harvest. Now many occasions are put on it including fireworks night and remembrance. It is a fantastic event and there are also fires at Rye and at Lewis on following weekends. Once upon a time there would have been hundreds of fire celebrations in the country...and many other seasonal celebrations too. We are lucky that a few of them survive in this time of" health and safety" ! or just what it really is... restriction on our national identity and prevention of large group gatherings.
