Glastonbury camping (June)

Well, we also spent a week camping on a lovely farm just a short walk from Glastonbury tower. The farm is called Paddington Farm and they offer accommodation and camping to groups. Yet again it was a very wet week .It was my first week camping just me and THREE  kids and was not without trauma as on the 2nd evening my boy slipped and split his lip up to his nose..eughh.. but we survived the ordeal and even carried on camping even though it was extremely  wet and muddy. My nerves were a wee bit frayed though but it was still the beginning of our camping season and i still had lots of energy !

Glastonbury has an awful lot of this going on...crystals..pagan pursuits, natural springs , bookshops...lovely food in numerous cafes and eateries, all with a mystical spiritual commercial  touch. it has to be visited to be believed. It is reputed to be the gate of Avalon and the underworld....it does seem to have some special magic in spite of all the commercialism and I did enjoy visiting.

The yurts on the farm. It would have been  great to have stayed in one of these.

way back in June

Back in June we attended  the annual Avebury get together to celebrate the summer solstice .This involves camping in a field,  practising with a samba band ,dressing up and generally having a good time in spite of the weather which was not good and celebrating the solstice  , which involves going to Avebury village and standing by the stones and taking part in a samba band performance  as the sun goes down .

Small World Festival

Well our first camping trip was quickly followed by another. This time our annual visit to the very lovely Small World Festival.  I love it because it is so small we are practically camped in the festival and are able to enjoy all of it and keep an eye on the kids at the same time ,which is a blessing. In some festivals it can be an expedition itself just getting from your camping pitch to the event.  Here one can walk around the whole site in 10 minutes ! So the kids get a huge sense of freedom and we get to relax....I am beginning to think it is a museum piece of a festy..no fast food ,no shops,no phone companies, no rubbish on the floor, there,s always sweet activities for the kids and the music is lovely, lots of instruments and passionate players ,all helped by solar power and the spontaneity of the people. Love it ! I even managed to deal with the heavy rain and mud but fortunately that didn,t happen until towards the end !   It,s one thing Old Blighty can do well .. Rain..
And that reminds me there was a Golden jubillee here this weekend but we missed it....!!!
